“Lost Homes - Villages at Sanriku”. Scale models are displayed at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (Entrance hall)

< Back to List

The second exhibition of the “Lost Homes” scale model. 11 towns and villages along Sanriku Ria Coastline lost in the disaster are represented with 82 scale models, each of which has 1m x 1m size and 1:500 scale. 15 universities and 18 university laboratories join together to make a series of huge scale models which represent admirably beautiful sceneries of villages conditioned by harsh topography of the ria and the sea.

In the exhibition, the models enable us to grasp abundantly the intricate ria coastline, not easily perceived its entirety even on the spot, and to feel the reality of daily lives which were led by local people before the earthquake. Through appreciating the models, we deepen our thoughts on the lost homes.
